“Travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.” – Miriam Beard
The more I travel, the more important I realize travel is in my life. Growing up, I was always under the impression that there is so much to see in the US, why bother traveling to other countries? But after spending two weeks in Iceland last year, I realized that international travel is about so much more than seeing the sights. Then, after a US road trip this year, I thought, “Why were we so amazed by the landscape in Iceland? The US has just as much color, variety, and surprises to offer as what we saw in Iceland.”
Needless to say, there is a lot to see and experience everywhere in the world.
I’d like to be able to do more than just one big trip every year. I want to make travel a priority in my life. As I’ve been getting back into painting, I’m finding that I can draw creative inspiration from traveling. Most recently, I’ve been working on a series of color studies in watercolor that are inspired by the colors in the landscapes we passed through on our US road trip.
So my inspiration from travel so far has mostly been limited to color, but I’d like to see what inspires me as I continue to travel and the relationship in my life between creativity and travel deepens.
I think another international trip is in my future for 2016…
