The series that this drawing is a part of, titled “I Can’t Stay Here,” was made in response to experiences I have had in nature, in which I have felt transported to a world beyond the human world, where time moves more slowly and the rhythms of nature become apparent. The drawings express a stillness and a quiet power beyond what is immediately visible, a moving and mystical experience. This drawing was made after an encounter with a sheep while travelling through Iceland. I was struck by the way the sheep was staring at me and felt unnerved, as if I had intruded into its own space and time.
