The series that this drawing is a part of, titled “I Can’t Stay Here,” was made in response to experiences I have had in nature, in which I have felt transported to a world beyond the human world, where time moves more slowly and the rhythms of nature become apparent. The drawings express a stillness and a quiet power beyond what is immediately visible, a moving and mystical experience. This drawing was made in response to an experience at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, along Lake Superior in Michigan. The sky was clearing after a storm. The late afternoon sun shone on a remaining patch of fog, making it blindingly white. The clouds and air itself seemed alive, vital, full of motion.
