The series that this drawing is a part of, titled “I Can’t Stay Here,” was made in response to experiences I have had in nature, in which I have felt transported to a world beyond the human world, where time moves more slowly and the rhythms of nature become apparent. The drawings express a stillness and a quiet power beyond what is immediately visible, a moving and mystical experience. This is a drawing of Badland National Park in South Dakota. I was struck by the way the unforgiving landscape seemed to express time in a way that my human mind could not grasp.
