The series that this drawing is a part of, titled “I Can’t Stay Here,” was made in response to experiences I have had in nature, in which I have felt transported to a world beyond the human world, where time moves more slowly and the rhythms of nature become apparent. The drawings express a stillness and a quiet power beyond what is immediately visible, a moving and mystical experience. This drawing was made in response to an encounter with bighorn sheep, while descending Mount Washburn in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. As I stared into their dark eyes, I felt like I had entered the world of the sheep for a moment.
