The series that this drawing is a part of, titled “I Can’t Stay Here,” was made in response to experiences I have had in nature, in which I have felt transported to a world beyond the human world, where time moves more slowly and the rhythms of nature become apparent. The drawings express a stillness and a quiet power beyond what is immediately visible, a moving and mystical experience. This drawing was made after visiting Norway’s western coast. The stark difference in elevation gave such a clear view to the mountains across the valley. There was an ominous feeling to it; I had the sense that the forest was looking at me.
